MTD Pick is an independent UK website offering MTD software comparisons of HMRC-recognised software for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD ITSA). We review the tools that submit quarterly updates and End of Period Statements to HMRC, and we write plain-English guides to the rules, deadlines, and penalties that come with MTD.

MTD Pick is written and run by Alex Quinn. It is not part of any software company, accountancy firm, bank, or recruitment brand, and it is not affiliated with HMRC.

About Alex Quinn

Alex is an independent UK finance writer who specialises in tax software for sole traders, freelancers, and small businesses. Before writing about tax software, Alex worked in UK tax and accounting services, preparing Self Assessment and business records for small-business clients — so the reviews on this site are written by someone who has actually prepared tax records by hand, not just read about them.

For more than five years Alex has covered UK tax policy, accounting software, and the everyday reality of running a small business — the quarterly deadlines, the hidden fees, and the tools that actually make life easier. Alex holds relevant professional experience in UK tax and small business accounting, and keeps up with HMRC rule changes and software updates as part of normal practice.

The focus of every article is the same: what actually works for sole traders and landlords, not what the vendors' marketing departments want you to believe.
